Wrattonbully Shiraz
|
The Hollick Wrattonbully vineyard with its rolling hills and stony soil is a fantastic site for quality wine grape production. The Wrattonbully vineyard was planted in 1998 and boasts similar shallow terra rossa soils over limestone to Coonawarra, but is marginally warmer resulting in slightly earlier ripening. Our Wrattonbully vineyard consistently produces low yields of fruit with intense flavour and colour. The Wrattonbully Shiraz displays the rare combination of power and elegance. There is an abundance of sweet Shiraz fruit flavours, but the wine retains a good balance and surprisingly supple tannins. Flavours and aromas of honeysuckle, passionfruit skins and roses typical to the Wrattonbully wine region underline the complexity of the wine and are in harmony with the primary black fruits of the Shiraz variety. This wine is a fabulous match to venison and other rich meat dishes, and may be enjoyed now or carefully cellared for 5-7 years. |

2008 Vintage Reviews90 points 'The dense Shiraz has a spicy blackberry and blueberry nose and an intense, medium bodied palate.' ***** ***** World's Greatest Shiraz Challenge 'The 2008 is particularly impressive: it is perfumed, supple, round and freshly textured...leaving a wine that is approachable now or can be cellared in the short term.' |
