'Tannery Block' Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

This wine is a classic Coonawarra style, showing bright crimson colour with rich berry and cassis aromas and flavours over soft tannins.  It is named after the leather tanning pits which were dug into the terra rossa soil last century on the original Hollick property in Coonawarra.

French and American oak maturation contributes to the wine's overall balance and drinkability. Cabernet Sauvignon is the major component of the blend, with 15% to 20% Merlot added for softness in the early years of the wine's life, and more often than not a dash of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are included to add complexity.

This is the most popular wine in the Hollick range, its predecessors have won numerous awards at Australian Wine Shows including the Jimmy Watson, Robert Bryce and Arthur Kelman Trophies.

It is at its best when consumed with roast and grilled meat dishes or fine cheese. We recommend cellaring for 7 to 10 years.

2009 Vintage Reviews

"The Colour is good, the bouquet with blackcurrant and redcurrant, the medium-bodied palate introducing savoury, spicy nuances.  Has good mouthfeel and length, with firm, earthy tannins on the finish." 92 points. James Halliday, Wine Companion
