Tempranillo

At Hollick we try to stay ahead of the pack by producing some interesting other varieties, and since visiting Spain we have had a penchant for many things Spanish. Tempranillo originated in Northern Spain and takes its name from the Spanish word for a little early. It is pronounced 'temp-rah-nee-yoh', and is picked a little earlier than our other red varieties.

The Hollick Tempranillo is made from 100% Tempranillo sourced from the Hollick vineyard at Wrattonbully, located 50 kms north of Coonawarra. The climate of Wrattonbully is slightly warmer than Coonawarra and is well suited to the variety.

This wine is a fabulous accompaniment to many food styles, particularly tapas inspired dishes, but is also terrific on its own. We recommend you enjoy this wine now.

'This has a rich and meaty smell, nicely worked in the winery and very much in step with the way Tempranillo works for the Spanish...the palate’s smooth, soft and easy with fine fluffy tannin supporting lithe, flavoursome fruit. Drink now' 90 points
- Nick Stock, Wine 100 magazine

'Nice texture with good fruit weight.'
- Ray Jordan, The West Australian - Wine

'A good example of Australian Tempranillo with velvety tannins and fruit-driven persistence'

'Outstanding colour – opaque purple black colour with dark purple red hue. Aromas of black cherry, plum and confectionary with a hint of spice as an end note.' 91 points
