Avant Garde Range
(Cellar Door & Limited Retailers only)
Avant Garde: a term describing art that departs from the existing norm in an original or experimental way
Ian Hollick has always been prepared to trial new varieties, being one of
the first in Coonawarra to plant Merlot in the early 80s. Inspired by a trip
to Spain and Italy, Tempranillo and Sangiovese were planted at the "Red
Ridge" vineyard in Wrattonbully in 1999, after a trial planting in 1995 in
Coonawarra.
The Avant Garde Range is comprised of the "HOLLAIA" Sangiovese Cabernet
blend (a play on the Super Tuscan wines such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia and
Solaia), the single varietal wines of Tempranillo, Barbera, Savagnin (similar to the Spanish variety Albarino) and the
Sparkling Merlot.
