Feast for the Senses Success

David and Mel, along with Hollick friend Georgie spent last weekend at the Feast for the Senses celebration in Elder Park Adelaide as part of the Tasting Australia festival.  We had a great time meeting many Hollick and Coonawarra fans, and thank all of those for dropping by to see us.

As part of this we ran a competition for people to sign up to our mailing list, and its with great pleasure that we announce that Jenny Gyss from South Brighton in SA won a 1.5L magnum of the 2004 Hollick Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot.  We hope you enjoy Jenny!  Cheers!!

Iconic Dinner Enjoyed by all

icon dinner 2012 porkThe Hollick Icon Launch dinner was proclaimed a great success on Saturday 21st April 2012.  Kate and Mel Hollick, winemaker Matt Caldersmith, assistant winemaker Joe Cory, vineyard manager Stuey Sharam and sales manager David Greenwood were joined by around 30 Hollick supporters for the magnificent 5 course degustation meal.

Highlights on the night were varied amongst those attending, including the Beachport Snapper with the 2010 Hollick Bond Road Chardonnay.  The pork belly served with the 1999 and 2008 Hollick Neilson's Block Merlot was a crowd pleaser and was followed by a venison dish enjoyed with the 1999 and 2008 Hollick Wilgha Shiraz.  The local lamb was also a highlight with all enjoying tasting the 1991 Hollick Ravenswood Cabernet Sauvignon along with the new release 2008 vintage.  Finally, the night finished off with a cheese plate and glass of The Nectar 2011, which matched superbly to the ducs de champagne triple cream.

Vintage 2012 all but over

Vintage at Hollick is all but over for yet another year with the Hollick team last week hand picking the young vine Barbera, the last of the reds to come into the winery.  All that is left to go is the Riesling for The Nectar that we'll leave to hang in the hope that Botrytis Cinerea takes hold.  This has had some cane's cut to induce dehydration just in case the botrytis infection doesn't occur.

Vintage 2012 started early, but was a rather lengthy affair due to our cooler weather and in particular the cooler nights.  Quality looks sensational, although the quantity was quite a lot lower than our average tonnage.

Visiting Chinese Trade

chinese visitorsOver the past 2 weeks we have entertained 2 groups of visiting Chinese wine trade.  The Vintage 2012 Chinese Trade Visit is an initiative of Wine Australia's in conjunction with state governments, regional bodies, and Australian wineries to educate some key personnel in the Chinese Wine trade and media on the virtues of the Australian wine trade, and in particular its regional heroes.  Upstairs at Hollick have hosted 2 groups over the last week and have given the visitors the opportunity to help hand plunge open fermenters of Merlot and Pinot Noir whilst also enjoying a superb meal with Coonawarra vignerons Upstairs at Hollick.  We hope we have left the visitors with a lasting impression of our beautiful region and our premuim wines.
